The coffee
How fresh is it?
It is roasted on demand in small batches, not pulled off a pallet that has been sitting since spring, and it goes out within a few business days of being roasted.
When should I drink it?
Filter coffee is at its best roughly 5 to 21 days after roasting. Espresso likes a little more rest, about 10 to 30 days. After that it is still perfectly safe, it just gets flatter. We would rather tell you that than pretend a bag lasts a year.
How should I store it?
Closed bag, room temperature, away from light and the stove. Not the fridge, not the freezer unless you are freezing it sealed and in one go. The bag has a one-way valve so it can breathe without letting oxygen in.
Why is there no roast date on the bag?
Because we do not roast the coffee and we are not the ones sealing the bag. A date printed by us would be a date we did not watch happen, and that is exactly the kind of thing this brand exists to not do. What we can tell you is that it is roasted on demand and that everything else on the label is verifiable: region, altitude, varietal, process, ingredients.
The photos show a roast-date field. What gives?
Those photographs are our design mockup, made before the first production run existed. The panel on them is real, line for line. The roast-date field is not, and it will come off the artwork before we print anything. We would rather say that here than quietly swap the picture and hope nobody noticed.
Whole bean or ground?
Both, at the same price. Ground is a medium drip grind. If you make espresso, moka or French press, buy whole bean and grind it yourself: one grind cannot serve every method, and we would rather be honest about that than sell you a compromise.
Is it organic? Fair trade?
We do not carry those certifications today, and we are not going to imply we do. What we can tell you is the region and the process for every coffee, printed on the front of the bag.
What is in the flavoured one?
It is on the bag. No. 5 Canela is arabica coffee, ground cinnamon and natural cinnamon flavour. Three things, printed in plain English. No "proprietary flavour system".
Is the decaf really decaf?
No. 4 Interregnum is Swiss Water decaffeinated: caffeine removed with water and carbon, no chemical solvents. It sits at roughly 99.9% caffeine free, which is the standard for that process. It is not zero, and no decaf is.
How much caffeine is in a cup?
A 12 oz bag makes about seventeen 8 oz cups at our recommended ratio. A cup of drip coffee is usually somewhere between 80 and 120 mg of caffeine depending on the grind, the water and how long you brew. We do not print a number we cannot measure per batch.
Ordering and shipping
What does shipping cost?
Nothing, on every order, to any address in the United States. No minimum, no threshold, no "free over $X" game. The price on the bag is the price you pay.
How long until it arrives?
Your order goes to the roastery, gets roasted and packed within a few business days, and then ships. Most orders land within a week. You get tracking by email the moment it leaves.
Do you ship outside the US?
Not yet. When we do, it will say so here.
Can I change or cancel an order?
Yes, as long as it has not been roasted. Write to hello@bregacoffee.com with your order number and we will catch it if we can. Once a bag is roasted it is yours, because it was roasted for you.
What if something arrives wrong or damaged?
Write to hello@bregacoffee.com within 30 days with your order number and a photo. We replace it or refund it, your choice, and you do not have to ship anything back.
Do you charge sales tax?
Where we are required to, yes, and it is shown at checkout before you pay. Nothing is added after.
The subscription
What do subscribers get?
11% off every bag, the printed tasting card that goes with each coffee, and a welcome pack with the first order. Shipping is already free for everyone, so that is not a subscriber perk and we will not dress it up as one.
How often does it come?
Every two weeks, every month, or every two months. You pick, and you can change it whenever you like.
How do I cancel?
One click from your account page, any time before the next order is placed. No email, no phone call, no retention offer. We would rather you leave easily than stay by accident.
Can I skip or change the coffee?
Yes, both, from the same account page, up until the order goes out.
When am I charged?
When each order is placed, not up front. There is no year paid in advance and no joining fee. The next charge date is on your account page, and you can skip or cancel before it.
How much coffee should I be getting?
A 12 oz bag is about seventeen 8 oz cups. One cup a day is roughly two and a half weeks per bag, two cups a day is closer to a week. Most people start monthly and move from there once they see how fast a bag goes.
Do subscribers get different coffee?
No. Same coffees, same roastery, same small batches. Subscribers pay 11% less for them and get the printed tasting card in the box.
Us
Who roasts the coffee?
A small artisan roastery in the United States that we found recently and liked enough to build this on. They roast in small batches, on demand, by hand. We choose the coffees, we write the tasting cards, we print the label. We do not own a drum roaster and we are not going to photograph one and let you assume we do.
Why is it not cheaper?
Because roasting in small batches on demand and shipping free costs more than roasting a pallet in advance and letting it sit. We would rather charge for that than take it out of the coffee.
Do you have reviews?
We are new, so we are still collecting them. When they go up they will be real customers in their own words, published as written. We are not going to buy them, and we are not going to write them ourselves.
How do I reach a person?
hello@bregacoffee.com. A person reads it and answers, usually within a day.
