How long does a 12 oz bag of coffee last?

A jar of coffee beans, a small scale and a mug on a counter

A 12 oz bag of coffee is about 340 g, which is 68 level tablespoons or 34 scoops. At one 12 fl oz mug a day (22 g at 1:16) it lasts about 15 days, at two mugs about 7 days, at three about 5 days, and at four just under 4 days. The numbers use the how much coffee per cup math: 5 g per level tablespoon, 10 g per scoop, 1:16 coffee to water.

How many days does a bag last by mugs per day?

This table assumes a 12 fl oz (355 g) mug and 22 g of coffee per mug at 1:16.

Mugs a day Coffee a day Level tablespoons Scoops Days per 340 g bag
1 22 g 4.4 2.2 about 15
2 44 g 8.8 4.4 about 7
3 66 g 13 6.6 about 5
4 88 g 17.6 8.8 just under 4

If your mug is 8 fl oz, use 15 g instead, and the bag lasts about 22 days at one mug a day. The single-cup math is on how much coffee for 8 oz of water.

How long does a bag last if you brew a full pot?

For a drip machine, count in pots. These assume 5 fl oz cups, which is how machines are commonly sold, and 1:16.

Pot a day Water Coffee Scoops Days per 340 g bag
4 cup about 20 fl oz 37 g 3.7 about 9
8 cup about 40 fl oz 74 g 7.4 about 4.5
12 cup about 60 fl oz 111 g 11 about 3

If you brew for a crowd, one bag goes fast. The how much coffee for 20 people page shows how many bags an event takes.

Does a stronger or weaker brew change the days?

Yes, in proportion. The roaster's own recipes call for 60 g per litre, which is a touch stronger than 1:17 but lighter than 1:15. At 1:15 you use about 6% more coffee than at 1:16, and at 1:17 about 6% less. For one mug a day, that is the difference between about 14 and 16 days. Our ratio chart by ounces has the numbers for each strength.

How fresh does it have to be when you finish it?

Our site FAQ says filter coffee is at its best 5 to 21 days after roasting. We do not print a roast date. We roast on demand, so the count starts close to when the bag ships. Against that window:

  • One mug a day takes about 15 days, so the whole bag falls inside it.
  • Two or more mugs a day finish the bag in about a week or less, comfortably inside.
  • Half a mug a day or less stretches the bag past 21 days. If that is you, a smaller dose or sharing the bag is better than stale coffee.

Which cadence fits a subscription?

Match the delivery to the table. One mug a day suits a bag every 2 weeks. Two mugs a day needs a bag about every week. A monthly bag fits only light drinking, roughly half a mug a day. The subscription is 11% off, and you can skip or cancel in one click if your pace changes.
