Can you switch coffees in a subscription?

Two mugs of coffee side by side on a kitchen counter

Yes, you can switch coffees in a subscription. Log into your account, open the active subscription, and select a different coffee for the next shipment, whole bean or ground, at the same price. The frequency and the 11 percent subscription discount carry over unchanged, nothing about switching requires canceling or restarting anything.

How the switch actually works

A subscription on our store is tied to your account and its schedule, not locked to one specific coffee. Opening the subscription shows the coffee currently set for the next order along with an option to change it before that order processes. Since every coffee we sell is $28 for 12 oz, whole bean or ground, switching never changes what you are charged.

When the change takes effect

A switch made before your next scheduled order applies to that shipment. If you make the change after an order has already processed, it will show up starting with the following one instead, the order that already shipped goes out as originally set. Checking your account a few days ahead of the next charge date is the simplest way to be sure a switch lands where you want it.

Switching versus skipping versus canceling

Action What it does
Switch coffee Changes which coffee ships next, keeps the schedule and discount
Skip a shipment Delays the next charge and delivery by one cycle, resumes automatically
Cancel Stops future shipments until you start a new subscription

Switching is the right move when you like the subscription itself but want a different coffee next time. Skipping is for a shipment you do not want at all, and canceling is for stopping the whole thing.

What to switch to if you are not sure

If you started with an easy, everyday coffee and want something more distinct next time, No. 7 Praxis, a washed Guatemalan with dark chocolate, bright fruit and butterscotch, is a common next step. If you started with something more particular and want to go back to a coffee that works for everyone in the house, No. 1 Common Sense is the more forgiving direction. Either way, the switch itself takes the same couple of clicks in your account.

Switching all ten, one at a time

Since the price is the same across the lineup, some people use the subscription to work through the full collection of all ten coffees a bag at a time, switching to a new one each cycle rather than repeating the same order. There is no limit on how often you can change it, so this works whether you switch every shipment or only occasionally.

Switching between whole bean and ground

The same change you make to pick a different coffee also covers whether that coffee arrives whole bean or ground, both options are $28 and both are available for every coffee we sell. If you bought a grinder since you started the subscription, or lent yours to someone and have not gotten it back, switching to ground for a shipment or two is the same simple change as switching coffees, done from the same place in your account.

What if you cannot decide between two

If you like two coffees enough that you do not want to pick just one, switching each cycle is a reasonable way to alternate between them without keeping two separate subscriptions running. Some people settle into a pattern, one coffee for the cooler months and a brighter one for warmer weather, others just alternate every shipment. Since a switch only affects the next order, there is no downside to changing your mind again next cycle if the pattern does not end up working for you.

Does switching affect the next charge date

No. Switching the coffee on an upcoming shipment does not move the date it charges or ships, it only changes what is in the box. If you also want to change the timing, that is a separate setting on the same subscription page, covered in more detail in our guide to subscription cadence. The two settings, which coffee and how often, do not affect each other.

For the rest of how the subscription works, including pausing it, see our guide on how the subscription works with no commitment and on pausing a subscription for vacation. Full billing details are on the FAQ page.

Changing the coffee does not touch the schedule or the discount, it only changes what shows up next.

Questions people ask

Can I switch coffees in the middle of a subscription?

Yes. Log into your account, open the active subscription, and change which coffee is set for the next shipment. It takes effect on the upcoming order, the frequency and the 11 percent discount stay the same.

Does switching coffees reset my subscription discount?

No. The 11 percent off applies to the subscription itself, not to a specific coffee, so changing which one ships next does not change the price or restart any waiting period.

Can I switch back and forth between two coffees every shipment?

Yes, there is nothing that limits how often you change the coffee on an active subscription. Some people rotate between two or three each cycle rather than sticking with one, the mechanics are the same either way.
